I usually don't write about just me.. but this last 8 days has been insanely overwhelming for me so I thought I would get it out. The first paragraph may be a little graphic for some.
Last Tuesday evening:
- 8 Staples in the head
A little over a week ago I had to take my mom to the emergency room at Kennestone Hospital.
My mother slipped on her living room floor (not an age thing!), couldn't catch her balance, and slid into a cabinet resulting in a large cut on her head. I didn't see it happen. I was in her office printing photographs of my two kids for her to frame when I heard her fall. I don't even remember going down the stairs. I freaked. The scene was horrific in my eyes and because I didn't know where the blood was coming from and it was coming out so fast, I didn't know how long she was going to live. Yes, that's the way I think.
The cut was stapled by a great (hilarious) ER doctor and we were on our way after about 3 or 4 hours which went by pretty quickly.
During all of that my kids were with my sister-in-law and my 4 year old daughter had been dealing with a stuffy nose for a couple of days. I was nervous about my sister-in-law getting her to bed as she was pretty stuffy and cranky that day, but she did and apparently fell right to sleep after a few stories.
Last Tuesday & Wednesday:
- No sleep for 48 hours
I brought my mom to my house after her ER visit, around 11pm, because after having such a bad fall and staples in her head she couldn't stay by herself and I didn't want her to. I knew that I wouldn't get much sleep that night because I needed to keep an eye on her but it turns out I didn't sleep AT ALL. Madelyn didn't feel well that night, tossing and turning and finally running a 102.2 fever and throwing up in the early morning hours. So, I was taking care of my mom and my daughter on no sleep the next day. I took Madelyn to the Dr. and after getting a thorough check-up the dr. gave us a clear diagnosis of.. nothing. She's still coughing and has a runny nose one week later. :(
The next night I got four hours of sleep because Madelyn was still sick. I am very much a believer that sleep is over-rated though, so I guess I don't get really upset when I don't get 6 or 7 hours of sleep. If I get 4 or 5 hours, that's a really good nap and I'm OK. I have to be OK, right?
Thursday evening:
- My 4 year old's first ballet recital
I attended my 4 year old's first ballet recital. I was a nervous wreck. She had no idea that the recital was going to be somewhere other than her ballet school and was shocked when we arrived at the middle school and there were hundreds of people there! I was surprised too.. didn't realize it was such a large event.
Madelyn acted like she wasn't going to go on stage (whimpering, etc..) but she went right up with her BFF Tori and they were amazing! I am so proud of Madelyn for doing such a great job!
My mom didn't miss Madelyn's 1st recital.. staples in her head and all! She's amazing. Truly a Supermom!
Saturday morning:
- Sebastian ran the Peachtree Jr.
I am so proud of Sebastian, my 10 year old, for running his first Peachtree Jr. last weekend. Madelyn was still sick and my mom was still recovering from her fall a few days earlier and I couldn't back Sebastian out of the race so I was a little bit stressed during the race. It was his first race and I didn't know what to expect.. he did so great running the 3k in about 24 minutes.. with no training. We thought we were going to train him a bit, but that didn't happen. Life happened.
Monday evening:
- Attended the Fernbank Museum Gecko: Tails to Toepads media event
Friday night I took my mom and kids to Fernbank Museum for a special media event to see the new Geckos: Tails to Toepads exhibit and BUGS IMAX film. I couldn't have enjoyed the exhibit more. Geckos are amazing little creatures and Fernbank Museum does a great job exhibiting them and educating visitors on every aspect of a Gecko's body and life.
Tuesday:
- Took my mom back to Wellstar Kennestone ER to get her staples removed from her head. She handled it better than I did. I was pretty bummed when they had a trainee take her staples out. Wouldn't have been so bad if one of the staples wasn't being stubborn and the trainee didn't know what to do.
Wednesday:
- Found out that my Dad is Lymphoma is gone!
I just found out yesterday that my dad's latest bone marrow labs came back free of Lymphoma which he's been battling for over a year. That was the best call ever.. words can't describe how I felt.
- I have Plysemia
I woke up with a terrible sharp pain when I try to take a normal to deep breath yesterday and after mentioning it to my husband, I found myself calling the Dr. which I wasn't planning on doing because I'm stubborn like that. About an hour later I was in the Dr. office getting an EKG, chest x-rays, and blood work. The diagnosis was Plysemia. I have no idea how I got it as I haven't been sick at all, but glad it's not a heart issue.
I feel like I'm aging too quickly.. I'm post-menopausal at 35 years old. My poor kids had to deal with a menopausal mommy at such a young age. :(
- My Mom left for a two week cruise.
I'm a little nervous about her being that far away and for so long. We won't be able to communicate often.
Today:
- What's in store for today? Well, my mom should have arrived in Rome, Italy around 4am our time so hopefully she's going to call or email me from her Princess Cruise ship sometime today.
I have tons of work to do and both the kids are home with me. Should be a productive day.. ha!
