Madelyn and I ventured out of our 10-mile weekday radius - What did we do?

Like a lot of moms I know, we have a 10 mile radius that we stay within during the week. My kids after-school activities are mostly located within 10 miles of us so when we venture out of our 10-mile radius it's a big deal and I tend to make a day of it so we can knock a few things out in one day.

Today, Madelyn and ventured out of our 10 mile radius and we had a busy and fun day.

1st stop - Pee Wee Naturalist class at Chattahoochee Nature Center

First, we went to Madelyn's Pee Wee Naturalist class at Chattahoochee Nature Center where she got to go on a scavenger hunt to find plants of all colors. On the way to Chattahoochee Nature Center Madelyn went on and on about how badly she wanted me to buy her a magnifying glass at the store there, then when Ms. Rebecca the class teacher showed the kids a bag of magnifying glasses, Madelyn was beside herself. Ms. Rebecca must be a mind reader or a magic Princess, according to Madelyn. The kids were given scavenger hunt sheets on which they were to color blocks labeled pink, red, blue, purple, and so on.. once they found a plant or other wildlife of the corresponding color. The kids loved hunting for colorful plants and flowers! It was really cute watching the 4-6 year olds searching the 'forest' while carrying their crayons and scavenger hunt sheets.

Near the end of class Ms. Rebecca brought a snake out fot the kids to learn about and all of the kids were practically on top of Ms. Rebecca anxious to see every detail of the snake with their magnifying glasses. Class ended with the kids planting seeds into a pot they got to take home. Madelyn put her pot on the front porch and can't wait to watch her seed turn into a "beautiful flower plant".

Madelyn had a blast at Pee Wee Naturalist class yesterday and can't wait to go again, and again, and again.. you get it.

2nd stop - Hair cut at Snip-Its

After her Pee Wee Naturalist class at Chattahoochee Nature Center, we went to get Madelyn's hair cut and I made a spur of the moment decision to get her hair cut at Snip-Its at East Cobb Avenue since it's so close to Chattahoochee Nature Center. Snip-Its has advertised in the AtlantaMoms.com children's hair salon guide for years and I have never been so this was a treat for me as well as for Madelyn who hadn't had her hair cut in.. too long.

Madelyn was excited from the moment we walked into Snip-Its. She was delighted when she saw the bright colors, the table with toys on it, and the best thing of all was watching two kids get treats out of a machine after they had their hair cut. Despite not having an appointment, we walked in and got a seat right away and Madelyn was thrilled when her stylist turned on a monitor right in front of her so she could watch a cute Snip-Its themed show. The stylist was great with Madelyn, took her time, and made sure that Madelyn was comfortable the entire time. Before we knew it Madelyn had a beautiful new hair cut, a cute braid, pink princess dust in her hair, and earring stickers on her ears. She looked like a real princess when she walked out of Snip-Its. I couldn't have been happier, nor could Madelyn.

After her haircut Madelyn and walked around East Cobb Avenue for a bit and stopped in Nestled Newborn where she found lots of cute things she thought she needed including a butterfly catcher/piggy bank but we didn't buy anything and then we headed across the parking lot to Gymboree where I caved and bought her a cute outfit and a couple of hair accessories.

Needless to say, I didn't get much work done yesterday but Madelyn and I had a great day our visit to Chattahoochee Nature Center and to the 'princess salon' (Snip-Its) are the things that she'll remember so I'm OK with taking a little unexpected time off of work.

Chime in..
