I have a 12 year old son and I swear he thinks that I should just buy him new clothes instead of him having to wash his dirty clothes. I am a busy mom, just like you, and now that he's older I feel very strongly that he should be able to remember to do his own laundry on a set day of the week and complete the laundry.. actually putting his clothes away I mean!
I have tried reminders, he's too old for chore charts, etc.. but I just can't seem to get him to WANT to do his laundry once a week or even every 10 days would be great.
While I don't expect him to WANT to do his laundry, I would love to get ideas on how to get him into a laundry routine even when we're busy.
Any ideas? How do you get your Tween to do his/her laundry? Bribery? Incentives? Money?
Have you tried reverse bribery?
My Mom made us 'buy back' our shoes, clothes, etc if we didn't put them away and deal with it. It wasn't terribly steep, but any money taken out of our allowance was a big deal to us. If he doesn't want to do his laundry, then he's essentially hiring you to do it. You could also institute a rule that he has to do it by 5pm on Sunday or whatever time you choose before he loses out on allowance money. That way he's not dragging his feet for weeks and wearing dirty clothes.
